Your child will be a member of a den — a small group of kids of the same grade/age. Dens meet together to complete fun and age-appropriate Adventures. Dens advance through the Cub Scout ranks as they grow.
A pack is big group of multiple dens. Our whole pack meets together for fun activities. Parents and adults help the pack operate — no previous Scouting experience is needed.
“Scouting is a game with a purpose.” However, we know that kids don't join Cub Scouts for character building. They join because it's fun, and they like learning new skills. While being safely challenged to try new things as they grow, your Scout will be making friends and creating family memories that last a lifetime.
Scouting works in preparing youth for life in a world beyond school and sports. The ideals that Scouting teaches are timeless and help kids to build confidence and character. For more info, read The Scouting Edge: A Study of Ethics and Character in America.
Scouting America is committed to safety and youth protection. Youth with special needs are welcome; learn more at ablescouts.org/toolbox.
"Do we have to be experienced campers?" No outdoor experience is required. Scouting is a great way for both youth and adults to develop new skills.
"How do I transfer from another unit?" Either ask us about transferring your national membership to our pack or contact our council's member care team for assistance.
"Is Cub Scouts religious?" All Scouts are reverent — they respect the beliefs of others — but our pack does not require or promote any specific religion. The minimal requirements related to Family & Reverence will be addressed at home. We welcome people of all backgrounds.
"What comes after Cub Scouts? How is Cub Scouts different from Boy Scouts?"
Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) offers multiple programs for boys and girls ages 5–20.
In Cub Scouts, a pack is adult-led and provides ready-made opportunities for families to enjoy fun activities together. Cub Scouts is for youth ages 5–10.
In Scouts BSA (formerly Boy Scouts), a troop is youth-led and aims to help young people develop self-confidence and leadership skills. Youth in a Scouts BSA troop plan and carry out fun activities and goals, while their adult leaders are providing a safe and encouraging environment to enable the youth to succeed. Scouts BSA is for youth 11–17.
In Venturing, a crew is youth-led, coed, and offers a program all about building adventures with your friends. Choose to do activities that matter to you and develop essential skills like leadership, event-planning, organization, communication, and responsibility while having a blast! Venturing is for ages 14–20. (Members 14–17 may be part of a Scouts BSA troop at the same time.)
